Sustainability
We want Margate Soul Festival to have a lighter footprint on our special coastline, working with nature, the beach and the tides to bring you a beachside soul festival like no other.
People
Margate Soul Festival is now delivered by a social enterprise, NewMargate CIC to ensure that £1 of every ticket goes back into community and environmental projects that directly benefit Margate.
We are looking at various charity social enterprise partners in Margate who can help us deliver long term community benefit via our ticket proceeds.
Place
Our main stage is now beachside at Lower Newgate Promenade, just behind the iconic Lido sign and we are working with a number of local groups and sustainability experts to ensure that our footprint here is as light as possible.
We will be using eco-generators and low power lighting and we’re looking at innovative ways to reduce our emissions in running the festival.
Our partners include Plastic Free Thanet, innovative Margate based skincare brand Haeckels and local sustainability expert, Georgina Wilson-Powell plus more to be confirmed.
We hope that there will be long lasting positive impact from Margate Soul Festival this year, benefitting the local community beyond the festival weekend.
Planet
We are planning for Margate Soul Festival to be as plastic free as possible this year.
Currently we are working on an alternative to single use plastic cups that go into the bin. We are aiming to work with, and donate to, local beach litter picking groups.
We have asked food and drink vendors to not bring single use plastic packaging in line with government legislation that was brought in October last year.
There will be a water refill point at the Sunset Stage and cafes and bars will refill water bottles.
Travel
We would like to encourage our guests to use public and low emission transport this year. Please see our Travel page for more details.
